The Journal of Hypermedia & Technology-Enhanced Learning is committed to preserving the integrity, accessibility, and continuity of its published scholarly record through the PKP Preservation Network, internal operational backups, structured volume-level archive exports, author self-archiving, metadata dissemination, and responsible continuity planning.
Multiple Layers of Protection
J-HyTEL combines external distributed preservation with internal operational backups, structured volume-level archive exports, author self-archiving, persistent identification, and metadata dissemination.
Internal Operational Backup
The journal maintains internal backup copies of the OJS database, uploaded files, published article galleys, issue content, configuration data, plugins, templates, and website resources required to support operational restoration.
Author Self-Archiving
Authors may deposit a preprint, the Accepted Manuscript, and the Version of Record without an embargo, subject to clear version labelling, applicable permissions, ethics and confidentiality requirements, and the citation and DOI conditions described below.
Persistent Identification & Metadata
Each published article receives a Digital Object Identifier through Crossref. Journal metadata is also made available through Open Archives Initiative protocols to support discovery, citation linking, and integration with scholarly repositories.
Platform & Website Recovery
The journal's active website, publishing database, uploaded content, configuration, and presentation resources are included in its internal backup arrangements. These backups support restoration if the primary publishing platform becomes unavailable.
Volume-Level Archive Export
The journal has developed an internal Volume Bundle Manager designed to generate a structured downloadable ZIP package for each published volume. A package is treated as complete only after its included files and manifest have been successfully generated and verified. A verified bundle may include issue front matter, article PDFs, and a CSV manifest to support offline custody, migration, verification, and recovery preparation.
Volume Bundle Manager
J-HyTEL has developed an internal OJS mechanism designed to generate structured, volume-level archive packages without requiring one oversized server archive. Each package is treated as complete only after generation and verification succeed.
One Structured ZIP per Volume
Each request processes one published volume and is designed to produce a separate ZIP package. When several volumes are selected, the system initiates separate package-generation processes rather than combining all volumes into one very large archive.
Published Content Collection
The bundle is designed to collect the published issues and article PDF galleys associated with the selected volume so that the scholarly content can be retained and reviewed outside the active OJS interface.
Front Matter Inclusion
A volume bundle is considered complete only when the included files are stored on, or reliably retrieved into, journal-controlled infrastructure. A temporary external reference must be clearly flagged and must not be treated as the authoritative archival copy until a controlled local copy has been verified.
Manifest & Export Verification
A CSV manifest records the package contents and supports file-level checking, transfer documentation, and later reconstruction. The manager also provides system tests and success or error feedback during archive generation.
Self-Archiving Without Embargo
Repository deposit supports access and preservation while keeping each version clearly identifiable.
Preprint
May be deposited before submission, during review, or after publication. It must be labelled as a preprint and must not be represented as peer reviewed or published by J-HyTEL.
Accepted Manuscript
May be deposited immediately after acceptance. It must be labelled as the author-accepted version, must not use the final journal typesetting, and should link to the Version of Record and DOI after publication.
Version of Record
May be deposited immediately after publication under the licence stated on the article. The citation appropriate to the article's current publication stage, the DOI when active or stable article URL while pending, the licence notice, and the link to the journal landing page must be retained. Final issue details should be updated after issue assignment.
Rights and Restrictions
Third-party copyright, participant consent, privacy, confidentiality, contractual obligations, patents, security, and research-ethics requirements may limit deposit of particular material.
PKP Preservation Network
J-HyTEL verifies preservation through the external ISSN preservation record and the issue-level status reported by the OJS PKP PN plugin. Because coverage expands as newly published issues are processed, current holdings and status should be checked through the linked records rather than treated as a fixed snapshot on this policy page.
PKP Preservation Network
J-HyTEL participates in the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), a distributed digital-preservation service for eligible journals published through Open Journal Systems.
PKP PN uses LOCKSS-based distributed preservation infrastructure and operates as a dark archive. Preserved content is not ordinarily accessed by end users and may be made publicly available through PKP-supported recovery arrangements after a defined trigger event. J-HyTEL does not claim separate enrolment in the Global LOCKSS Network, CLOCKSS, Portico, or another preservation service unless independently documented.
ISSN Portal & Keepers Registry
The external ISSN preservation record identifies Sagamedia Teknologi Nusantara as the publisher and displays Public Knowledge Project PLN as the keeper. PKP currently refers to the service as the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN); the difference reflects the service name displayed by the registry.
The external registry and the OJS PKP PN plugin provide the current holdings period, issue coverage, preservation status, and latest update information. These records may change as newly published content is deposited, processed, or re-transferred; readers should consult them for the current position.
Continuity & Recovery Planning
J-HyTEL maintains complementary procedures for normal website operation, internal backup, restoration, preservation verification, and continued access if publishing operations change.
Primary Service
The journal's principal server provides normal public access to articles, issues, metadata, supplementary materials, and editorial policy information.
Backup Activation
If the primary service becomes unavailable, restoration actions are initiated using the journal's internal database, file, configuration, and website backups.
Volume Bundle Generation
Published volumes may be exported through the Volume Bundle Manager as separate structured ZIP packages containing verified front matter, article PDFs, and a CSV manifest. These packages support offline custody, migration, verification, and recovery preparation.
Ongoing Verification
Backup coverage, volume-bundle completeness, and issue-level PKP PN deposit status are periodically reviewed. Failed, incomplete, or missing files and deposits are investigated and regenerated or transferred again when necessary.
Ethical Archiving Standards
J-HyTEL documents its preservation arrangements and seeks to maintain the authenticity, integrity, confidentiality, and accessibility of its published scholarly content over the long term.

The preservation service, verification method, and external record are publicly identified. Current holdings, status, and update information remain available through the linked registry and the journal's OJS preservation status rather than being frozen as a dated snapshot on this page.

Published files and metadata successfully deposited in PKP PN are preserved through distributed procedures intended to maintain their integrity and controlled recoverability. Internal backups separately support restoration of the active OJS platform.
