About the Journal

The Journal of Hypermedia & Technology-Enhanced Learning (J-HyTEL) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal (e-ISSN 2985-9166; DOI prefix 10.58536) covering three connected subject areas: education; media technology; and computer science applications. These areas are united by an emphasis on clearly defined research problems, systematic investigation, appropriate and transparent methods, responsible uses of technology, and meaningful scholarly contribution. J-HyTEL publishes three scheduled regular issues annually, in February, June, and October.

J-HyTEL publishes research on learning technologies, digital media, interactive content, software, information systems, and computing solutions. Its coverage includes online, blended, mobile, adaptive, and immersive learning; educational technology; vocational and professional learning; hypermedia and multimedia; multimodal communication; digital storytelling; human-computer interaction; interaction design; user experience; accessibility; artificial intelligence; information systems; decision-support technologies; and web, mobile, desktop, cross-platform, or immersive applications.

Computer science application research is considered within scope only when its central research problem and scholarly contribution demonstrate an explicit and substantive relationship to learning, communication, user experience, accessibility, or human interaction with digital media.

Across its interdisciplinary domains, J-HyTEL prioritises research that clearly articulates what was investigated, how the inquiry was conducted, what evidence was obtained, and why the findings matter beyond the immediate context of implementation.

In support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), J-HyTEL encourages research that advances inclusive education, responsible innovation, and sustainable digital development.

The journal publishes original research and review articles. Within these article types, contributions may include empirical research; theoretical and conceptual studies; design, development, and evaluation research; human-centred system and field studies; rigorously analysed case studies; systematic and scoping reviews; evidence syntheses; meta-analyses; and bibliometric studies.

Manuscripts that proceed beyond initial editorial screening are evaluated through double-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers with relevant subject or methodological expertise. Reviewer recommendations inform the editorial decision, while final responsibility for acceptance or rejection rests with an authorised, non-conflicted editor in accordance with the journal's Peer Review Policy.

The journal collaborates with the Digital Society Lab at the University of Belgrade and PVKTII to foster scholarly exchange and research collaboration in educational technology, hypermedia, multimedia, digital interaction, human-computer interaction, and human-centred computer science applications.

J-HyTEL welcomes contributions from researchers at all career stages, including early-career researchers and emerging scholars, and seeks to broaden participation from regions and scholarly communities that remain under-represented in international publishing. All submissions are assessed according to the same standards of originality, methodological rigour, ethical conduct, relevance to the journal's scope, and scholarly contribution. Career stage, institutional affiliation, geographic location, or access to funding does not determine editorial acceptance.

J-HyTEL is published by Sagamedia Teknologi Nusantara. The publisher supports platform administration, publication infrastructure, preservation, metadata, and data stewardship, while manuscript assessment, peer-review oversight, editorial interpretation, and publication decisions remain under the journal's independent editorial authority.
