Preservation Architecture

Multiple Layers of Protection

J-HyTEL combines local redundancy, author self-archiving, metadata dissemination, and independent preservation services.

Local & Cloud Storage

Published articles are retained across multiple systems, including journal servers, authorised editorial computers, portable archive drives, and secure cloud storage. Files are preserved in both PDF and DOCX formats to provide redundancy and support long-term recoverability.

Author Self-Archiving

Authors may deposit the final published version of their article in personal, disciplinary, or institutional repositories immediately after publication, provided that complete bibliographic and citation information is included.

Indexing & Metadata Distribution

Each article receives a Digital Object Identifier through Crossref . Journal metadata is made available through Open Archives Initiative protocols to support discovery and integration with repositories.

Website-Level Backups

The journal website and its electronic content are retained across separate server environments. Backup infrastructure is maintained to support restoration if the primary service becomes unavailable.

The PKP Preservation Network provides preservation services for eligible Open Journal Systems publications. Archived content is retained independently of the journal's primary website to support continued scholarly access.

LOCKSS

The LOCKSS model distributes preserved content across participating libraries. This decentralised approach supports continued access if a journal server becomes unavailable or publishing operations change.

Continuity & Recovery Planning

Preservation extends beyond files to include website availability, operational recovery, and post-publication continuity.

Primary Service

The journal's principal server provides normal access to articles, issues, metadata, and supporting materials.

Backup Activation

If the primary service fails, backup infrastructure can be activated to restore access, with a target recovery window of 24–36 hours.

Ongoing Verification

Backup copies and preserved files are maintained as part of the journal's continuity responsibilities and may be reviewed during routine administrative checks.

If Publication Ceases

If unforeseen circumstances cause the journal to stop publishing, independent preservation systems and participating repositories are intended to maintain access to the published scholarly record.
